Standard Specification for Nickel
Standard Specification for Nickel
ABSTRACT This specification covers refined nickel primarily produced from ore or matte or similar raw material. Chemical analysis shall be performed on the metal and shall conform to the chemical composition requirements in nickel, cobalt, copper, carbon, iron, sulfur, phosphorus, manganese, silicon, arsenic, lead, antimony, bismuth, tin, and zinc. The principal commercial forms are cathodes, briquettes, and pellets. Cathodes shall be sampled using template drilling procedure. SCOPE 1.1 This specification covers refined nickel primarily produced from ore or matte or similar raw material. The principal commercial forms are cathodes, briquettes, and pellets. 1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to become familiar with all hazards including those identified in the appropriate Safety Data Sheet (SDS) for this product/material as provided by the manufacturer, to establish appropriate safety, health, and environmental practices, and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use. 1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
ASTM B39-79(2023), Standard Specification for Nickel, is an international standard developed by ASTM International. It outlines the quality requirements for refined nickel mainly produced from ore, matte, or similar raw materials. This specification focuses on the principal commercial forms: cathodes, briquettes, and pellets. It establishes procedures for sampling, testing, chemical composition, packaging, and marking of nickel products for industrial use. The standard supports consistent product quality for manufacturers, suppliers, and end users across global industries.
This ASTM nickel standard is widely applied in industries that require high-purity nickel for manufacturing and processing, including:
