Standard Specification for Thermoplastic Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) Jacket for Wire and Cable
Standard Specification for Thermoplastic Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) Jacket for Wire and Cable
ABSTRACT This specification covers thermoplastic chlorinated polyethylene (CM) compounds suitable for use as an outer covering or jacket on electrical cables. Thermoplastic jackets shall conform to the requirements for physical properties specified. The sunlight and weather resistance of the jackets shall be tested to meet the requirements specified. SCOPE 1.1 This specification covers thermoplastic chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) compounds suitable for use as an outer covering or jacket on electrical cables. 1.2 These jacket materials are suitable for use on cables which will be installed at temperatures above –35 °C. 1.3 The values stated in inch-pound units are regarded as standard. The values given in parentheses are mathematical conversions to SI units that are provided for information only and are not considered standard. 1.4 This international standard was developed in accordance with internationally recognized principles on standardization established in the Decision on Principles for the Development of International Standards, Guides and Recommendations issued by the World Trade Organization Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Committee.
ASTM D4363-22: Standard Specification for Thermoplastic Chlorinated Polyethylene (CPE) Jacket for Wire and Cable is an internationally recognized standard developed by ASTM International. This specification details the requirements for thermoplastic chlorinated polyethylene (CPE) compounds used as the outer covering, or "jacket," for electrical cables. These CPE jackets are valued for their flexibility, durability, and resistance to environmental factors such as sunlight and weather exposure. The standard is critical for manufacturers, designers, and installers of electrical wiring and cabling systems that require reliable performance in demanding environments.
The ASTM D4363-22 standard is widely used in the manufacturing and assessment of electrical cable jackets for various sectors, including:
