BS 4835 describes general methods of test applicable to organic ester type plasticizers containing only carbon, hydrogen and oxygen but excluding esters of phenols and esters of hydroxy-acids. An ester plasticizer, in its simplest concept, is a high-boiling organic solvent that when added to an elastomeric polymer reduces stiffness and permits easier processing.
