BS 4938 is a British standard on the dirt content of milk that discusses a method for the determination of the dirt content of milk to ensure milk is safe for consumption. BS 4938-1 is the first part of the BS 4938 series that specifies a reference method that is primarily intended for application to raw herd milk and raw bulk milk, but it can be applied to any milk (whole, partly skimmed or skimmed), raw or heat treated. The reference method described in BS 4938-1 is based on the Millard and Cheeseman method.
