BS 5131-3.1 is a part of an international standard that focuses on maintaining the quality of the footwear and footwear materials. BS 5131-3.1 specifies the test method for the strength of upper materials and lining materials at right angles to stitch perforations, when made up into a normal seam. BS 5131-3.1 gives a method, applicable to all upper and lining materials less than 3.0 mm thick.
