Safety barriers provide containment for vehicles without significant deflection or deformation under impact. BS 6579-5 discusses safety fences and barriers for highways. BS 6579-5 is the fifth part of the BS 6579 multi-series and specifies the requirements for the components to be used in the construction of the open box beam type of safety fence. Requirements are given for the materials and dimensions of the components and for protective finishes. The erection of the assembled fence is outside the scope of BS 6579-5 .
