Abstract
BS 812-124:2009 Testing aggregates. Method for determination of frost heave Aggregates are the most commonly used construction minerals in the UK. They are widely distributed with a range of potential sources and are used in very large quantities. Testing these minerals is therefore very important. BS 812-124 describes a test procedure for the determination of the frost resistance of unbound aggregate mixtures. It covers mixtures that have been compacted to form a cylindrical specimen with a predetermined water content and density. BS 812-124 applies to unbound aggregate mixtures used in the construction of roads and other paved areas at a depth that might experience frost penetration. BS 812-124 includes an option for the use of comparator specimens to confirm that the test chamber is working correctly. Who will find BS 812-124 useful?
People working with the Highways Agency Consulting Engineers People dealing with quarry products Civil Engineers All those involved with testing materials/minerals.
BS 812-124 replaces BS 812-124:1989 which is now withdrawn. Contents of BS 812-124:
Foreword Scope Normative references Terms and definitions Principle Sampling and sample reduction Apparatus Preliminary testing procedure Preparation of test specimens Procedure for the determination of frost heave Calculation and expression of results Test report Precision Self-refrigeration unit Use of comparator specimens
