Abstract
What is BS EN 12299 - Ride comfort for passengers about?
BS EN 12299 is a European standard that covers ride comfort for passengers. It outlines the methods for quantifying the effects of vehicle body motions on ride comfort for passengers, as well as vehicle assessments concerning ride comfort in order to ensure the appropriate level of ride comfort for passengers. The aim is to help train service providers to provide comfort to their passengers by ensuring there are relatively low levels of acceleration and roll velocity. BS EN 12299 applies to passengers travelling in railway vehicles on railway lines, including main, secondary, and suburban lines. It can also be used as a guide for other railway vehicles, for example, locomotives, metros, trams, etc.
Note 1: Other effects, not included in BS EN 12299 , are associated with higher acceleration levels health risk effects: physical damage and psychological deterioration.
