BS EN 54 is a European Standard on fire detection and fire alarm systems. It aims to establish operationally efficient safety equipment and systems that play a positive role during a fire emergency. BS EN 54-27 is the 27 th part of multi-series that specifies requirements, test methods, and performance criteria for fire detectors that detect smoke in air ducts in buildings as a part of fire detection and fire alarm system or as an actuator for a fire protection system. Note: Certain types of detectors contain radioactive materials. The national requirements for radiation protection differ from one member state to another and are not specified in this BS EN 54-27.
