Abstract
What is BS EN 6037 - Fibre reinforced plastics for aerospace applications about ?
Product and component quality is paramount for aerospace vessels. The delivery of high-quality components contributes to the safety of those on board. Fibre-reinforced plastic (FRP) is a composite material made of a polymer matrix reinforced with fibres. The fibres are usually glass (in fibreglass), carbon (in carbon-fibre-reinforced polymer), aramid, or basalt. They are commonly used wherever high strength-to-weight ratio and stiffness (rigidity) are required, such as aerospace, superstructures of ships, automotive, civil engineering, sports equipment, and an increasing number of consumer and technical applications. BS EN 6037 defines the procedure to be used to determine the bearing strength of fibre composites with multidirectional reinforcement. BS EN 6037 is applicable to composite laminates manufactured from unidirectional tape or woven fabric reinforcement.
