BS EN 61300-3-42 is a part of an international multi-series standard that covers fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components. BS EN 61300-3-42 describes the method to measure the attenuation of single-mode adaptors with resilient sleeves and the attenuation of resilient sleeves. The reference method for measuring attenuation is with an optical power meter. The measured attenuation is a result of the lateral offset between the fibre cores of the used connectors and the interaction between sleeve geometry and ferrule outer diameter.
