IEC 60745-2-17:2010 Deals with the safety of routers and trimmers which the rated voltage is not more than 250 V for single-phase a.c. or d.c. tools, and 440 V for three-phase a.c. tools. Supplements or modifies the corresponding clauses of IEC 60745-1. This third edition cancels and replaces the second edition published in 2003, of which it constitutes a technical revision. Main changes include: Clause 8: Marking and instructions, addition of some router specific safety warnings, clarifications in Annex K, the addition of Annex M: Safety of working stands for operation with hand-held motor-operated electric tools, and editorial modifications to match with the fourth edition of IEC 60745-1.
Abstract
Overview
IEC 60745-2-17:2010 is an international standard developed by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) that specifies safety requirements for hand-held motor-operated electric tools, with a particular focus on routers and trimmers. The standard applies to tools with a rated voltage of up to 250 V for single-phase AC or DC, and up to 440 V for three-phase AC. As part of the IEC 60745 series, this document supplements or modifies the requirements outlined in IEC 60745-1, providing detailed measures to address specific hazards associated with routers and trimmers.
This third edition represents a technical revision, including new safety warnings, clarifications for battery-operated tools, and requirements for the safe use of working stands with routers. Ensuring compliance with IEC 60745-2-17 is key for manufacturers, distributors, and end-users aiming to meet international safety standards and minimize risks in both professional and DIY environments.
