IEC 61207-7:2013 includes the terminology, definitions, statements and tests that are specific to tuneable semiconductor laser gas analyzers, which utilize tuneable semiconductor laser absorption spectroscopy (TSLAS). It applies to all aspects of analyzers utilizing TSLAS for the concentration measurement of one or more gas components in a gaseous mixture or vapour. It applies to analyzers utilizing tuneable semiconductor lasers as sources and utilizing absorption spectroscopy, such as direct absorption, FMS, WMS, multi-pass absorption spectroscopy, CRDS, ICOS, PAS and CEAS techniques, etc. This publication is to be read in conjunction with IEC 61207-1:2010. The contents of the corrigendum of June 2015 have been included in this copy.
Abstract
Overview
IEC 61207-7:2013 is an international standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) that focuses on the expression of performance for tuneable semiconductor laser gas analyzers. This part of the IEC 61207 series provides essential terminology, definitions, test methods, and performance statements specific to gas analyzers that use tuneable semiconductor laser absorption spectroscopy (TSLAS).
The standard applies broadly to analyzers that measure one or more gas components in gaseous mixtures or vapours, using various absorption spectroscopy techniques such as direct absorption, frequency modulation spectroscopy (FMS), wavelength modulation spectroscopy (WMS), multi-pass absorption, cavity-ringdown spectroscopy (CRDS), integrated cavity output spectroscopy (ICOS), photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS), and cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy (CEAS).
IEC 61207-7:2013 is designed to be used alongside IEC 61207-1:2010 and includes guidelines related to both in situ and extractive analyzer configurations. It also covers laser safety, operational and maintenance requirements, and compliance testing procedures.

- Detailed procedures for testing and verifying analyzer performance.
- Descriptions of test apparatus to simulate real measurement conditions.
- Methods for evaluating parameters such as response time, detection sensitivity, and measurement accuracy.
- Tests include handling interference by particles like dust or liquid droplets affecting optical paths.
-
Spectroscopy Techniques Included:
- Direct absorption spectroscopy
- Frequency modulation spectroscopy (FMS)
- Wavelength modulation spectroscopy (WMS)
- Multi-pass absorption techniques
- Cavity-ringdown spectroscopy (CRDS)
- Integrated cavity output spectroscopy (ICOS)
- Photoacoustic spectroscopy (PAS)
- Cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy (CEAS)
-
Analyzer Types Covered:
- In situ analyzers: Across-duct, probe, and open-path configurations that measure gas directly at its source.
- Extractive analyzers: Instruments analyzing gas sampled and transported via handling systems.
-
