IEC 61326-2-3:2012 specifies detailed test configurations, operational conditions and performance criteria for transducers with integrated or remote signal conditioning. It applies only to transducers characterized by their ability to transform, with the aid of an auxiliary energy source, a non-electric quantity to a process-relevant electrical signal, and to output the signal at one or more ports. It includes transducers for electrochemical and biological measured quantities. The transducers covered by this standard may be powered by a.c. or d.c. voltage and/or by battery or with internal power supply. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2006. It constitutes a technical revision and includes the following significant technical change with respect to the previous edition: update of the document with respect to IEC 61326-1:2012. This publication is to be read in conjunction with IEC 61326-1:2012.
Abstract
Overview
IEC 61326-2-3:2012 is an international standard published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC), focusing on electrical equipment for measurement, control, and laboratory use. It specifically addresses electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) requirements for transducers with integrated or remote signal conditioning. This standard provides detailed guidelines on test configurations, operational conditions, and performance criteria tailored to transducers that convert non-electrical inputs into process-relevant electrical signals using an auxiliary energy source.
This part 2-3 standard supplements IEC 61326-1:2012 by specifying additional requirements for transducers used in diverse applications, including electrochemical and biological measurements. It covers transducers powered by AC/DC voltage, internal power supplies, or batteries. The 2012 edition updates and replaces the first edition from 2006, aligning with the latest EMC standards and technical advances.
Key Topics
-
Scope and Application
Applies to transducers that transform non-electric quantities into electrical signals using auxiliary power sources. It encompasses transducers with integrated or remote signal conditioning units, including those measuring tension, pressure, temperature, and biological or electrochemical parameters. -
Test Configuration
Defines how Equipment Under Test (EUT) should be configured during EMC tests. This includes the arrangement of signal conditioning elements, transmission links, power supplies, and input/output ports to ensure standardized and repeatable results. -
Operational Conditions
Details the operational requirements during EMC testing, such as normal operating modes, test signal conditions, and interaction between transducer components and auxiliary equipment to simulate real-world working environments accurately. -
Performance Criteria
Establishes functional performance criteria to evaluate the immunity and emission behavior of transducers. These criteria help verify that equipment maintains essential functions and acceptable performance levels under electromagnetic disturbances. -
Immunity and Emission Testing
Specifies immunity test levels and emission limits consistent with IEC 61326-1:2012. It includes guidance on test methods for assessing transducer robustness against phenomena like electrostatic discharge, radiated and conducted disturbances, and power frequency magnetic fields. -
Additional Requirements for Specific Transducer Types
Annexes provide tailored requirements for force, pressure, and temperature transducers, including simulation of mechanical loads and measurement-specific considerations.
Applications
-
Industrial Process Measurement and Control
Ensures reliable operation of transducers used in manufacturing automation, process control systems, and industrial instrumentation where measurement accuracy and immunity to electromagnetic interference are critical. -
Laboratory Instrumentation
Supports development and certification of laboratory measurement devices that require compliance with harmonized EMC standards for accurate and repeatable data acquisition. -
Electrochemical and Biological Sensors
Applicable to sensors converting chemical or biological parameters into electrical signals, enhancing robustness and data integrity in research and diagnostic equipment. -
Transducers with Remote Signal Conditioning
Addresses configurations where signal conditioning is housed separately from the sensing element, common in harsh environments requiring isolation or advanced signal processing.
