Offers a set of rules that are applied in the design and manufacture of electrical installations and equipment to be used on rolling stock so as to protect the persons from electric shocks. Applicable to vehicles of rail transport systems, trolley buses, magnetic levitated vehicles ant to the electrical equipment installed in these vehicles.

IEC 61991:2000 – Railway applications – Rolling stock – Protective provisions against electrical hazards is an international standard developed by the IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission). It provides a framework of rules and guidelines for the design and manufacturing of electrical installations and equipment on railway rolling stock, with the primary goal of protecting people from electrical hazards such as electric shocks.
