IEC 62722-1:2022 covers specific performance and environmental requirements for luminaires, incorporating electric light sources for operation from supply voltages up to 1 000 V. Unless otherwise detailed, performance data covered under the scope of this document are for the luminaires in a condition representative of new manufacture, with any specified initial aging procedures completed. This second edition cancels and replaces the first edition published in 2014. This edition constitutes a technical revision. This edition includes the following significant technical changes with respect to the previous edition: - The reference to and use of the measurement methods for non-active power consumption in accordance with IEC 63103 have been added. - The pictograms of Annex C have been updated to represent modern light sources.
Abstract
Overview
IEC 62722-1:2022 - Luminaire performance – Part 1: General requirements - is the IEC performance standard that defines the information, measurement basis and tolerances for luminaires incorporating electric light sources operating from supply voltages up to 1 000 V. The second edition (2022) updates the 2014 edition and focuses on providing standardized performance and environmental data for luminaires in a condition representative of new manufacture (after any specified initial aging). The standard supports energy-efficient use, responsible environmental management and consistent product information for manufacturers, test labs and specifiers.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Scope and applicability
- Covers luminaires (not semi-luminaires) and provides general requirements that are applicable across most types of luminaires.
- Performance data are given for luminaires representative of new manufacture.
- Photometric data
- Requirements for measuring and presenting photometric distribution data and goniophotometry.
- Annex D specifies measurement resolution, comparison methods and acceptable limits of variation.
- Electrical data
- Input power and luminaire efficacy data requirements.
- Annex B: detailed measurement method of total luminaire power, standby power, networked standby and emergency lighting charging power.
- Non-active (standby/networked standby) power
- New in this edition: reference to measurement methods for non-active mode power in accordance with IEC 63103.
- Environmental and lifecycle information
- Materials information, maintenance instructions and end-of-life/disassembly guidance (Annex C pictograms updated in this edition to reflect modern light sources).
- Documentation and conformity
- The standard specifies the data manufacturers should provide; conformity is generally considered to be met by supplying the requested information, with verification achievable by measurement according to the standard.
Practical applications and who uses this standard
- Luminaire manufacturers - to prepare compliant product datasheets, photometric files and environmental documentation.
- Testing and certification laboratories - to perform standardized measurements of input power, standby/networked standby power, photometry and efficacy.
- Lighting designers and specifiers - to compare products using consistent photometric and electrical data.
- Procurement and regulatory bodies - to define performance requirements and verification criteria for tenders and regulations.
- Facility managers and end‑of‑life planners - to use maintenance, cleaning and dismantling instructions for responsible lifecycle management.
