This document specifies test methods and procedures to determine the corrosion behaviour of metallic materials used in the oral cavity. It is intended that these test methods and procedures be referred to in individual International Standards specifying such metallic materials. This document is not applicable to dental instruments.

ISO 10271:2020 - "Dentistry - Corrosion test methods for metallic materials" specifies standardized laboratory test methods to evaluate the corrosion behaviour of metallic materials used in the oral cavity. Intended to be referenced by product-specific international standards, it provides reproducible procedures to assess ion release, surface changes and susceptibility to corrosion mechanisms relevant to dental restorations. This edition (third, 2020) updates earlier guidance and adds methods such as crevice corrosion testing and a static immersion test with periodic analysis. Note: ISO 10271:2020 is not applicable to dental instruments.
