La présente Norme internationale spécifie des plans d'échantillonnage pour acceptation par la détermination de variables, ainsi que par le recours à des procédures de contrôle pour acceptation, applicables aux matériaux en vrac. Ces plans d'échantillonnage vont de pair avec des courbes d'efficacité spécifiques obtenues pour un coût raisonnable.
