Abstract
Overview
ISO 10767-2:1999 establishes a standardized, simplified test method for determining the pressure ripple levels generated by hydraulic fluid power pumps. Specifically designed for industry professionals, manufacturers, and testing laboratories, this International Standard promotes consistent procedures for measuring and reporting fluid-borne noise characteristics in pumps. By focusing on a simplified measurement approach, ISO 10767-2:1999 enables straightforward, reproducible comparisons of hydraulic pump designs, supporting quieter and more efficient hydraulic systems.
Understanding and controlling hydraulic pressure ripple is essential for minimizing fluid-borne noise, which can cause unwanted vibrations, noise pollution, and potential damage within fluid power systems. This standard is a critical tool for manufacturers who want to communicate the noise performance of their products, as well as for engineers selecting appropriate pumps for low-noise applications.
Key Topics
- Pressure Ripple Measurement: Outlines a simplified procedure to measure the cyclical fluctuations in hydraulic fluid pressure generated by pumps, providing clear steps for setup, instrumentation, and test execution.
- Instrumentation Requirements: Specifies suitable instruments-including piezoelectric pressure transducers and FFT analyzers-to ensure accurate and reliable readings across relevant frequency ranges.
- Test Circuit Design: Offers guidance on constructing the test circuit, including appropriate line diameters, lengths, and proper positioning of transducers and orifices.
- Test Procedure: Details step-by-step actions to stabilize test conditions, conduct measurements at various pressures, and document the harmonic content of pressure ripple.
- Data Presentation: Prescribes how to report harmonic amplitudes and overall root mean square (RMS) pressure ripple, ensuring consistency and comparability.
- Safety Considerations: Emphasizes the importance of adhering to manufacturer ratings and taking precautions to protect equipment and personnel.
Applications
ISO 10767-2:1999 applies broadly across industries that utilize hydraulic systems, such as:
- Manufacturing and Test Laboratories: Enables objective evaluation and certification of pump designs based on pressure ripple performance.
- Hydraulic Pump Manufacturers: Provides a reliable method for measuring, documenting, and communicating fluid-borne noise characteristics in sales and technical literature.
- System Designers and Engineers: Assists in choosing pumps that meet specific noise and vibration criteria in fluid power systems, contributing to quieter equipment design.
- Quality Assurance: Supports routine product testing and quality control to maintain conformity to international standards.
By facilitating direct and repeatable measurement of hydraulic pressure ripple, ISO 10767-2:1999 helps engineers and designers reduce unwanted noise and enhance the service life of hydraulic equipment.
