This document specifies the essential characteristics of a test track surface intended to be used for measuring rolling sound emission of vehicles and their tyres. The surface design given in this document — produces consistent levels of tyre or road sound emission under a wide range of operating conditions including those appropriate to vehicle sound testing, — minimizes inter-site variation, — limits absorption of the vehicle sound sources, and — is consistent with road-building practice.

ISO 10844:2021 - "Acoustics - Specification of test tracks for measuring sound emitted by road vehicles and their tyres" defines the essential characteristics of a test-track surface used to measure rolling sound emission. The standard is intended to produce consistent tyre and road noise levels, minimize inter-site variation, limit sound absorption, and remain compatible with road‑building practice. It replaces and tightens requirements from the 2014 edition to improve reproducibility of vehicle and tyre noise tests.
