ISO 12575-2:2007 specifies the responsibilities of the installers of exterior insulating systems for foundations such that a product that is manufactured and packaged in accordance with ISO 12575-1 is able to provide the properties declared by the manufacturer when installed according to ISO 12575-2:2007. ISO 12575-2:2007 stipulates responsibilities of the installer in the installation of the exterior insulation system, documentation of the installation and a declaration by the installer that all requirements of ISO 12575-2:2007 have been met. ISO 12575-2:2007 does not specify the fitness of the product for the intended use beyond those aspects relating to installation. Many aspects relating to the fitness for use are specified in ISO 12575-1. The installer can be required to meet additional requirements specified in local regulations or the customer's requirements.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 12575-2:2007 defines the principal responsibilities of installers for exterior insulating systems for foundations. The part ensures that products manufactured and packaged in accordance with ISO 12575-1 deliver the thermal properties declared by the manufacturer when they are installed according to this standard. The document clarifies the role of the installer relative to the manufacturer and the project designer and emphasizes compliance with local regulations and documented procedures.
Installers are required to follow the manufacturer's instructions, verify product conformity, and provide documentation and site labelling that the installation meets the requirements of ISO 12575-2:2007.
Key Topics
- Installer responsibilities: Confirm product suitability, follow manufacturer instructions, and meet jurisdictional or customer requirements.
- Verification and training: Obtain training on how the manufacturer declares conformity to ISO 12575-1 and understand product marking.
- Uniform insulating value: Ensure reasonably uniform thermal performance across the insulated face.
- Regulatory and design compliance: Meet or exceed local minimums or engineered energy-efficiency specifications.
- Protection and durability: Protect insulation exposed to weather or mechanical damage and account for soil settlement where protection penetrates the ground.
- Corrosion resistance: Ensure that carbon steel connectors, frames or furring used with the system are corrosion-resistant.
- Marking and labelling: Identify and record manufacturer markings and attach a prominent job-site label confirming compliance with ISO 12575-2.
- Documentation: Obtain manufacturer documentation or third-party certification of compliance with ISO 12575-1 and retain installation records.
- Dispute resolution: Accept accredited third-party material testing in disputes between manufacturer and installer; accept mutually recognized professional opinions in owner-installer disputes.
Applications
This part of ISO 12575 applies to exterior insulating systems used on:
- Perimeter walls and frost walls
- Load-bearing foundation applications
- Installations using fastened, adhered, furred, framed or soil-pressure methods
Practical applications include new construction and retrofit projects where consistent thermal performance and traceable installation records are required. Installers should integrate this standard into site quality-control practices and project documentation workflows to demonstrate compliance and support warranty claims.
