ISO 12619-7:2017 specifies tests and requirements for the gas injector and/or fuel rail, a compressed gaseous hydrogen (CGH2) and hydrogen/natural gas blends fuel system component intended for use on the types of motor vehicles defined in ISO 3833. ISO 12619-7:2017 is applicable to vehicles using compressed gaseous hydrogen (CGH2) in accordance with ISO 14687‑1 or ISO 14687‑2 and hydrogen/natural gas blends using natural gas in accordance with ISO 15403‑1 and ISO/TR 15403‑2. It is not applicable to the following: a) liquefied hydrogen (LH2) fuel system components; b) fuel containers; c) stationary gas engines; d) container mounting hardware; e) electronic fuel management; f) refuelling receptacles; g) fuel cell vehicles. NOTE 1 It is recognized that miscellaneous components not specifically covered herein can be examined to meet the criteria of this document and tested according to the appropriate functional tests. NOTE 2 All references to pressure in this document are to be considered gauge pressures unless otherwise specified.
Abstract
Overview - ISO 12619-7:2017 (Gas injector)
ISO 12619-7:2017 specifies tests and requirements for gas injectors and fuel rail assemblies intended for road vehicles using compressed gaseous hydrogen (CGH2) and hydrogen/natural gas blends. The standard applies to vehicles defined in ISO 3833 and to fuels meeting ISO 14687‑1/‑2 (hydrogen) and ISO 15403‑1 / ISO/TR 15403‑2 (natural gas). It defines construction, marking and a suite of functional and environmental tests to validate safe, durable performance of CGH2 and H2/NG blend fuel system components. (All pressures referenced are gauge pressures unless otherwise stated.)
Key topics and technical requirements
- Scope & exclusions: Applicable to injectors and fuel rail assemblies; not applicable to LH2 components, fuel containers, stationary engines, mounting hardware, electronic fuel management, refuelling receptacles or fuel cell vehicles.
- Marking requirements: Manufacturer/agent name, model/part number, working pressure (and temperature range), fuel type; recommended additional markings include flow direction, electrical ratings, certification symbol, type approval number and serial/date code.
- Construction: Injectors shall be closed when de‑energized and must comply with ISO 12619‑1 and ISO 12619‑2 where applicable.
- Pneumatic strength: Two-stage pressure test - apply 2× working pressure for ≥3 min (must remain gas‑tight), then increase up to 4× working pressure until leak or burst. Component must leak before bursting.
- Continued operation (durability):
- Bench durability: subject to "600 × 10" pulses at working pressure (minimum 50 Hz); leakage and insulation checks at intervals and on completion.
- Temperature exposure: hot static (140 °C ±2 °C, 16 h), cold static (−40 °C ±2 °C or −20 °C ±2 °C, 16 h), and thermocycling (140 cycles with operation during specified segment).
- Insulation resistance: Test voltage 500 V DC for 60 s (100 V DC for connectors ≤3.8 mm pitch); minimum resistance >10 MΩ.
- Test matrix: Includes leakage, corrosion, ozone/oxygen ageing, heat ageing, vibration, material compatibility, brass compatibility, UV and automotive fluid exposure per ISO 12619‑2 procedures.
