Overview
ISO 1463:2021 - Metallic and oxide coatings: Measurement of coating thickness - Microscopical method specifies a metallographic, cross‑section technique for determining the of metallic coatings, oxide layers and porcelain/vitreous enamel coatings using an optical microscope. The method involves cutting and mounting a specimen, preparing a polished/etched cross‑section, and measuring coating width by a calibrated optical measuring device (filar micrometer eyepiece or digital image processing).
