ISO 14692-2:2017 gives requirements for the qualification and manufacture of GRP piping and fittings in order to enable the purchase of GRP components with known and consistent properties from any source. It is applicable to qualification procedures, preferred dimensions, quality programmes, component marking and documentation. ISO 14692-2:2017 is intended to be read in conjunction with ISO 14692‑1.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 14692-2:2017 - "Petroleum and natural gas industries - Glass-reinforced plastics (GRP) piping - Part 2: Qualification and manufacture" specifies requirements for the qualification and manufacture of GRP piping and fittings. Its purpose is to enable buyers to procure GRP components with known and consistent properties from any source. ISO 14692-2:2017 is intended to be read in conjunction with ISO 14692‑1 and targets manufacturers, specifiers, certifying bodies and asset owners in the petroleum and natural gas industries.
Key topics and technical requirements
The standard addresses the full qualification and manufacturing lifecycle for GRP piping systems, including:
- Manufacturer’s declarations and qualification procedures
- Long-term regression testing and establishment of long-term envelope data points
- Baseline material and performance values, gradients and temperature limits (Annex A, B)
- Qualification programme
- Product qualification, scaling rules, and validation of long-term envelopes
- Mechanical and elastic property requirements (axial/hoop tensile modulus, Poisson’s ratios, bending modulus)
- Optional qualifications: electrical conductivity, potable water certification, impact resistance, fire and low-temperature performance
- Requalification provisions for product families and processes
- Quality programme for manufacture
- Production controls and tests such as mill hydrostatic tests (pipes and spoolpieces), degree of cure, Barcol hardness, glass content, visual inspection and dimensional checks
- Retest criteria and optional QC tests (electrical conductivity, fire performance, residual styrene)
- Component marking, handling, storage, transportation and documentation
- Enquiry/purchase order requirements, qualification documentation and production QC reporting
- Normative annexes covering survival tests, scaling rules, flange qualification, fire endurance testing and other specialized procedures
Practical applications
ISO 14692-2:2017 is used to:
- Qualify GRP piping systems and fittings for oil & gas processing, production facilities and offshore/onshore installations
- Define manufacturing quality controls and test regimes to ensure repeatable long-term performance
- Provide acceptance criteria and documentation required by purchasers, certifying authorities and regulators
Who should use this standard
- GRP pipe and fittings manufacturers seeking market compliance
- Pipeline and process engineers specifying materials for corrosive or chemically aggressive services
- Quality managers, inspection bodies, and certification agencies
- Procurement teams and asset owners in petroleum, petrochemical and natural gas sectors
