ISO 15763 defines terms and specifies requirements and tests for vehicle alarm systems (VAS) intended for installation within buses and commercial vehicles (as defined in ISO 3833) having a maximum authorized total mass (code ISO-M08 defined in ISO 1176) of greater than 3,5 t. It is applicable to VAS designed to detect or sense, and to indicate, the unauthorized opening of a vehicle's doors, luggage-compartment lids, bonnet/hood and emergency exits, as well as the tilting of the driver's cabin and the disconnection of a trailer or of the power supply. It covers both VAS intended for installation as original equipment, and those intended to be installed after delivery of the vehicle.

Overview
ISO 15763:2002 specifies requirements, definitions and test procedures for vehicle alarm systems (VAS) intended for installation in buses and commercial vehicles with a maximum authorized total mass greater than 3.5 t. The standard covers both original equipment and aftermarket alarm systems designed to detect and indicate unauthorized opening of doors, luggage compartments, bonnet/hood, emergency exits, tilting of the driver’s cabin, trailer disconnection and power-supply interruption. Volumetric protection systems are optional and tested against their own specifications.

- Alarm outputs: At least one acoustic warning device is required; optical or remote signaling (radio) are optional. Panic alarms (deliberately operated) must operate acoustic alarm at minimum and be cancelable by the user without affecting engine start.
- Design considerations: Components must minimize false alarms, resist tampering and not change system state due to power interruptions.
- Testing and durability: Comprehensive test suite including functional tests, electrical and EMC tests (ISO 7637, ISO 10605, ISO 11451/11452), temperature/humidity accelerated ageing, corrosion (salt mist), vibration, bump, drop, acoustic durability and volumetric protection functionality. Marking and documentation requirements are also specified.
