Overview - ISO 17884:2004 (Searchlights for high‑speed craft)
ISO 17884:2004 specifies functional, photometric and performance requirements for searchlights fitted to high‑speed craft (HSC) in accordance with the IMO High‑Speed Craft (HSC) Code. The standard covers design, operation, environmental resistance, tests for type approval and documentation required to ensure searchlights support safe navigation, collision avoidance and search‑and‑rescue operations at sea.

- Scope & purpose: Searchlights for detection of vessels, obstructions, floating objects, sea marks and persons in the water on HSC.

- Suitable for continuous operation; illuminant life test minimum 100 h.
- Construction per IEC/lighting safety standards, degree of protection at least IP56 (IEC 60529).
- EMC, alarms, ergonomic controls, maintenance, backup arrangements and safety precautions required.
- Type approval tests: photometric (goniometry, photometry), chromaticity, life‑duration, vibration, shock and documentation of test reports.
