ISO 19142:2010 specifies the behaviour of a web feature service that provides transactions on and access to geographic features in a manner independent of the underlying data store. It specifies discovery operations, query operations, locking operations, transaction operations and operations to manage stored parameterized query expressions.

Overview
ISO 19142:2010 - Geographic information - Web Feature Service (WFS) defines the behaviour of a Web Feature Service that provides access to and transactions on geographic features, independent of the underlying data store. The standard specifies discovery, query, locking and transaction operations, plus management of stored parameterized query expressions and service metadata. It covers request/response encodings (XML and KVP), namespaces, version negotiation and error reporting to enable interoperable web-based feature access in spatial data infrastructures.
