This document specifies an abrasion test method for accelerated testing of artificial turfs for use in sports facilities. Combined exposure to simulated solar UV radiation and mechanical wear in simultaneous or sequential modes is the method used. The details of radiation, temperature, and moisture exposure, as well as to mechanical abrasion using soccer shoe studs on rotating drum assembly, are given in this document. NOTE It was determined that simultaneous exposure was more effective than sequential exposure.

ISO 19721:2022 - Overview
ISO 19721:2022 specifies an accelerated abrasion test method for artificial turfs used in sports facilities by combining simulated solar UV exposure with mechanical stud wear. The method exposes turf specimens to controlled radiation, temperature, humidity (and optional spray/wetting) together with cyclic mechanical abrasion using soccer shoe studs on a rotating/stud‑cylinder assembly. The standard is intended as a screening or qualifying test for abrasion resistance; results may not directly equate to in‑service performance. Note: simultaneous UV + wear exposure was found more effective than sequential exposure.

- Specimen size & conditioning: minimum specimen 800 × 400 mm (uniform abraded area ≥ 500 × 300 mm). Condition specimens 24 h at 23 ± 2 °C and 50 ± 10 % RH before testing.
- Test conditions: Detailed exposure cycles (irradiance, BPT temperatures, humidity, spray cycles) are specified in separate tables for each lamp type; tolerances and alternative cycles may be agreed and must be reported.
- Measurements & reporting: Record radiant exposure, changes in appearance, and sports functional characteristics; report lamp type, test cycle, specimen details and any deviations. The standard references ISO 4892 (light exposure), EN 15306 (synthetic turf wear) and related documents.
