This document specifies the data structure and data exchange procedure related to micro mobility service applications utilizing a P-ITS-S (i.e. nomadic devices), including car sharing, parcel delivery and first-mile and last-mile connections. In addition, this document delivers related requirements for the development and operation of the service platform between nomadic devices and micro mobility with intelligent transport systems (ITS) technologies. This document defines a data structure and data exchange procedure based on the datasets and messages which are defined in ISO 22085-2.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 22085-3:2022 - Intelligent transport systems (ITS) - Nomadic device service platform for micro mobility - Part 3: Data structure and data exchange procedures specifies the data structures and application-level data exchange procedures for micro mobility services that use nomadic devices (P-ITS-S). It targets cloud‑based ITS interactions between personal ITS stations (P-ITS-S), vehicle gateways (V-ITS-SG) and central ITS stations (C-ITS-S) to support micro mobility use cases such as car sharing, parcel delivery, and first‑mile/last‑mile connections.
This part of the ISO 22085 series defines Data eXchange Messages (DXMs) and the message-level formats and procedures (pre‑trip, en‑route, post‑trip) needed to integrate micro mobility (MM) into broader ITS ecosystems.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Data structure definitions for a comprehensive set of DXMs, including:
- request-mm-status / mm-status-response
- stop-notify-mm-status / notify-mm-service
- charging-station-information, parking-space-information
- reservation-information, public-transit-schedule / reservation
- navigation-route-information, traffic-information, accident- and danger-zone-information
- warning-message, toll-balance-information, payment-information, return-information
- Data exchange procedures organized by trip phase:
- Pre-trip (UC 1.x): discovery, navigation-linked charging info, parking pre-scans, sharing/reservation workflows
- En-route (UC 2.x): traffic updates, MM status monitoring, mobile tolling, adaptive routing, on-the-way parking searches, keyless access
- Post-trip (UC 3.x): driving data reporting, charging/parking follow-up, parked MM location and shared vehicle return
- Interoperability focus: message-level compatibility between P-ITS-S, V-ITS-SG and C-ITS-S using standardized datasets (based on ISO 22085‑2).
- Terminology and roles defined for MMSP (micro mobility service provider), MMCS (micro mobility cloud server), MMCN/PCN networks and other ITS station concepts.
Practical applications and intended users
Who benefits:
- Micro mobility service providers (MMSP) implementing fleet management, sharing and reservation services.
- ITS system architects and integrators designing interoperability between nomadic devices, vehicle gateways and central ITS systems.
- Software developers building mobile apps, cloud platforms and DXM handlers for e‑scooters, e‑bikes, small EVs and shared micro vehicles.
- Public transit authorities and toll/parking operators integrating first‑mile/last‑mile services into multimodal networks.
Real-world uses:
- Seamless exchange of charging-station and parking availability with navigation apps
- Remote status monitoring and keyless access for shared micro mobility fleets
- Standardized reporting for tolling, payments and reservation flows across vendors
