This document provides basic requirements for gearboxes to operate industrial valves for manual and automated on/off and modulating duties, this includes manual override gearboxes. It includes guidelines for classification, design and methods for conformity assessment. It does not cover gear systems which are integral part in the design of valves and subsea gearboxes. Other requirements or conditions of use different from those indicated in this document are agreed between the purchaser and the manufacturer or supplier (first party), prior to order.

Overview
ISO 22109:2020 - Industrial valves - Gearbox for valves - defines basic requirements for gearboxes used to operate industrial valves in manual, automated and manual-override configurations. The standard covers classification, design requirements and methods for conformity assessment for on/off and modulating duties. It excludes gear systems that are integral parts of valve designs and subsea gearboxes. Other conditions of use are to be agreed between purchaser and manufacturer.

- Quality and conformity assessors performing type and production testing. Typical applications include industrial process plants, power, water, chemical and HVAC systems where reliable manual and automated valve operation is required (note: subsea applications are excluded).
