Overview
ISO 22863-3:2020 specifies a validated laboratory method to determine lead and lead compounds in pyrotechnic compositions (fireworks) using flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry (flame AAS). The method has a minimum detection limit of 10 mg/kg and includes sample digestion, calibration, measurement and calculation procedures. A simple preliminary qualitative test is recommended to decide whether a full quantitative analysis is required.

- Quality control: Blank correction in parallel; duplicate results must agree within ±10% of their mean. If outside limits, re-test (increase sample mass if needed).
- Calculations & reporting: Lead content calculated from measured concentration, blank correction, solution volume, dilution factor and sample mass. Test report must reference ISO 22863-3:2020 and include sample description, lab ID, results and any anomalies.
