ISO 22915-22:2014 specifies the tests to verify the stability of lateral- and front-stacking trucks, as defined in ISO 5053-1, with and without elevating operator position. It applies to trucks fitted with fork arms, shuttle forks, and/or integrated attachments under normal operating conditions. It applies to trucks fitted with a load carrier that can be shifted laterally or pivoted out of the longitudinal centre plane of the truck.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 22915-22:2014 specifies laboratory tests to verify the stability of lateral- and front-stacking industrial trucks, with and without an elevating operator position. It applies to trucks defined by ISO 5053-1 that are fitted with fork arms, shuttle forks and/or integrated attachments and to trucks with a load carrier that can be shifted laterally or pivoted out of the truck’s longitudinal centre plane. The standard defines test conditions, tilt‑table positioning and pass/fail criteria to assess rollover and tipping risk under normal indoor operating conditions.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Scope of testing: Stability verification for lateral- and front-stacking trucks (Tests 1–7) under different load, lift height and steering conditions.
- Test setup and positioning: Detailed requirements for placing the truck on a tilt table (see Clauses 4.2.2–4.2.4), including definitions of load and drive/steer axles and special points (M and N) used for lateral tests across various wheel and steering configurations.
- Lift height measurement: Lift heights are measured from the tilt table to the uppermost point of the load‑carrying surface (Clause 4.3).
- Steering modes and tilt angles: Stability criteria vary by steering mode - guided, restricted and unrestricted - and by travel speed (v, km/h). The standard specifies required tilt‑table angles and, for some tests, uses formulas that relate allowable tilt angle to truck speed and lift height.
- Load conditions: Tests cover trucks with and without test loads and consider the least‑stable load‑carrier positions (extended, transport, laterally displaced). Combinations of lift height, load and maximum travel speed that produce worst‑case stability are used to determine compliance.
- Test matrix: A tabulated verification matrix (Table 1) identifies which tests apply for longitudinal leading/trailing loads and lateral conditions, and whether load/no‑load conditions are required.
Applications
- Manufacturers of lateral- and front-stacking trucks use ISO 22915-22 to design and validate stability performance and to support type‑approval and safety declarations.
- Independent test laboratories and conformity assessment bodies apply the standard to verify compliance prior to market entry.
- Fleet managers, safety engineers and procurement professionals use the criteria to compare equipment safety and select trucks suitable for indoor stacking operations, especially where load carriers move laterally or operator platforms elevate.
- Regulatory and workplace safety authorities reference the standard when assessing risks related to truck tipping and operator elevation.
