Overview

ISO 24234:2021 - Dentistry - Dental amalgam is the international standard that defines requirements and test methods for materials used to prepare dental amalgam restorations. It covers the chemical composition and purity of dental amalgam alloy powders and dental mercury (supplied in sachets), performance properties of the mixed amalgam, and requirements for packaging, marking and manufacturer’s instructions. This third edition (2021) replaces ISO 24234:2015 and focuses on non-encapsulated forms: fine free-flowing alloy powder, alloy tablets, and mercury sachets sized for a single small-to-medium restoration. Pre‑capsulated products and bulk undivided mercury masses are excluded.
