ISO 24316:2022 - Ships and marine technology - Design and test requirements for steel doors using electrical trace heating - specifies requirements for the design, materials, manufacture, testing and designation of electrical trace heating for steel doors fitted to vessels operating in low temperature environments (below −10 °C). The standard addresses structural types, sealing, materials (including trace heater cable construction), quality of manufacture and mandatory tests (weather-tightness and anti-icing) to ensure doors remain operable and ice-free in polar and cold-water service.

- Insulating/outer sheath materials may include HDPE, FEP, PFA or other proven materials.
- Installation: cable must fit closely along the heated area, not be cut before fastening, and cable ends must be protected against moisture; follow supplier minimum bending radii.
- Quality & surface treatment
- No weld defects; rust removal to Sa2.5 or St3 per ISO 8501‑1 and application of anti-rust primer.
- Testing
- Weather-tightness (indentation and flushing tests) and anti-icing tests (device, conditions, procedures and pass/fail criteria are specified).
