Mixing and heating

Preferred mixing methods: mechanical stirring, air‑bubbling (spargers) and closed‑circuit pumping (most effective if pump output is adequate).
Air bubbling is simple but may remove volatile species (e.g., hydrogen fluoride) or alter water content. Closed‑circuit pumping is generally most effective.
Heating options: immersion heaters, jackets or hot‑water coils; avoid excessive surface temperatures that increase corrosion risk, especially when halides are present.

Wet‑process and crystallized acids

Wet‑process acids often contain precipitates (gypsum, fluorosilicates, phosphates) that may require extensive mixing (sometimes hours) or settling to sample liquid and sediment separately.
Crystallized acids must be made mobile (by heating) before sampling.

Safety

Protective goggles and acid‑resistant gloves are mandatory. Follow ISO 3165 for sampling safety guidance.
