Describes a test method for determining the stresses which may occur after the sealing of two glasses by means of stress birefringence.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 4790:1992 is an international standard specifying a test method for determining stresses in glass-to-glass sealings using stress birefringence. Developed by ISO Technical Committee ISO/TC 48 and Sub-Committee SC 5, this standard applies to the measurement of residual stresses that occur after sealing two glass pieces together. It enables precise evaluation of tensile or compressive stresses by analyzing optical path differences-critical for ensuring the structural reliability and quality of sealed glass assemblies.
