Overview
ISO 4857:2023 - Ships and marine technology - Test procedures and methods for windlasses and winches - specifies factory acceptance test (FAT) procedures for a complete windlass and winch system after assembly. It defines required pre-test checks, test sequencing, instrumentation and calibration requirements, and the core functional and load tests (no-load, drum/warping end load, drum holding, cable-lifter load/over-load and brake tests). The standard ensures marine deck machinery - including windlasses, anchor capstans, mooring winches and combined units - meet performance, safety and verification expectations before delivery.
