This document specifies the essential interface dimensions and the operating requirements for hydraulic couplers employed to transmit hydraulic power from agricultural tractors to agricultural machinery. It is applicable to couplers used in hydraulic lines other than those used for braking circuits. NOTE All hydraulic couplers are intended to be connected and disconnected frequently to allow the transfer of machinery from one tractor to another without the use of tools or special devices.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 5675:2021 specifies the essential interface dimensions and operating requirements for general purpose quick-action hydraulic couplers used in agricultural tractors and machinery. These hydraulic couplers are designed to safely and efficiently transmit hydraulic power from tractors to attached agricultural implements and machinery, excluding braking circuits. The standard emphasizes couplers that enable frequent connection and disconnection without tools or special devices, facilitating easy transfer of equipment between tractors.
Developed by ISO Technical Committee ISO/TC 23, this fourth edition updates previous versions by aligning coupler mounting zones with industry practices and expanding specifications for rear-mounted couplers. The standard is critical for manufacturers and users of agricultural hydraulic couplings, ensuring interoperability, safety, and performance across diverse tractor and machinery combinations.
Key Topics
- Interface Dimensions: Defines coupler male part dimensions according to ISO 7241:2014 Series A sizes (12.5 mm and 20 mm nominal). A specific 15° angle is required to maintain compatibility with dust protection devices.
- Operating Requirements:
- Couplers must meet pressure drop limits (max 0.35 MPa at specified flow rates).
- Fluid loss limits are set for disconnection under pressures of 0.1 MPa and 17.5 MPa.
- Force required to open valves in male couplers must not exceed defined thresholds (45 N for size 12.5 and 70 N for size 20).
- Couplers must not close valves prematurely at low flow rates, ensuring continuous oil flow during operation.
- Mounting Locations: Specifies precise locations for rear, front, and side couplers on tractors to standardize installation and ease of use. Female couplers are mandated for front and rear mounting; side couplers may use either female or male.
- Compatibility Assurance: Any male coupler conforming to the dimensional requirements will connect properly with any female coupler built to this standard, ensuring interchangeability.
Applications
ISO 5675:2021 is widely applicable in modern agricultural operations where quick and reliable hydraulic power transfer is essential, including:
- Attaching and detaching hydraulic implements such as plows, seeders, sprayers, and balers to tractors.
- Facilitating modular equipment management by allowing operators to switch machinery without specialized tools.
- Supporting tractor and machinery manufacturers in designing hydraulic systems with nationally and internationally recognized coupling specifications.
- Enhancing safety in hydraulic connections by minimizing fluid loss and controlling pressure drops during operation.
- Standardizing coupler interfaces to simplify inventory and maintenance of parts in agricultural supply chains.
This standard is vital for agricultural equipment manufacturers, tractor designers, farmers, and maintenance professionals seeking to improve efficiency, safety, and operational flexibility in hydraulic coupling systems.
