This document specifies the chemical composition of wrought aluminium and aluminium alloys.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 6362-7:2022 - Wrought aluminium and aluminium alloys - Extruded rods/bars, tubes and profiles - Part 7: Chemical composition specifies the permitted chemical composition of extruded wrought aluminium and aluminium alloys. The third edition (2022) updates alloy entries (including additions such as alloys 2033 and 6026), corrects previous errors and aligns composition limits with internationally registered alloy designations (“Teal sheets”).
Keywords: ISO 6362-7, wrought aluminium, aluminium alloys, chemical composition, extruded rods/bars, tubes, profiles, material specification.
Key topics
- Scope: Defines chemical composition limits expressed as percentage by mass for extruded wrought aluminium products.
- Composition tables: Table 1 lists alloy-by-alloy limits for principal elements (Si, Fe, Cu, Mn, Mg, Cr, Zn, Ti, etc.) and special notes for “remainder” aluminium content.
- Conformity rules: Annex A provides rules for rounding analytical results to the same decimal places as the limits when determining conformity.
- Reference alignment: Values correspond to Registration of International Alloy Designations and Chemical Composition Limits for Wrought Aluminum (“Teal sheets”); in case of discrepancy, Teal sheets control.
- Unspecified elements: Presence of other elements is permitted unless purchaser and supplier agree on additional limits.
- Normative cross-reference: Uses terms and inspection/delivery conditions defined in ISO 6362-1.
Practical applications
- Ensuring material compliance for extruded rods, bars, tubes and profiles used in automotive, aerospace, construction, marine and general engineering.
- Providing procurement specifications for buyers and contract terms between suppliers and purchasers, including agreed limits for trace elements.
- Guiding quality control and laboratory testing: laboratories apply the rounding rules and test-report formats in Annex A when reporting alloy composition.
- Supporting design and material selection: engineers use composition limits to predict mechanical and corrosion properties tied to alloy chemistry.
Who should use this standard
- Aluminium extrusion manufacturers and foundries
- Quality managers, metallurgists and materials engineers
- Purchasing and procurement specialists specifying extruded aluminium products
- Test laboratories and conformity assessment bodies
- Design engineers in sectors where alloy chemistry affects performance (aerospace, automotive, marine, construction)
Related standards
- ISO 6362-1 - Technical conditions for inspection and delivery (normative reference for terms and definitions)
- Registration of International Alloy Designations / “Teal sheets” - controlling reference for alloy chemical limits
ISO 6362-7:2022 is essential for anyone specifying, testing or accepting extruded wrought aluminium products where documented chemical composition and conformity are required.
