Describes a method for the determination of the bulk density of whole green or roasted coffee beans under free-flow conditions from one container to another. The method is not suitable for the determination of the bulk density of ground roasted coffee.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 6669:1995 specifies a routine method for determining the free‑flow bulk density of whole green or roasted coffee beans. The procedure measures the mass of beans that freely flow from a calibrated hopper into a known‑volume receptacle and expresses bulk density in grams per litre (g/L) (or kg/m³). This method is intended for whole beans only and is not suitable for ground roasted coffee.

- Repeatability requirement:
- Absolute difference between two independent results (same operator, same lab) must not exceed 1% of their arithmetic mean.
