ISO 699:2015 specifies a method for the determination of the alkali-insoluble fraction of pulps using sodium hydroxide solution of fixed concentration. The sodium hydroxide concentrations most frequently used are 18, 10, and 5 % (m/m). The method is applicable to all kinds of pulp.

Overview
ISO 699:2015 specifies a laboratory method for determining the alkali-insoluble fraction (alkali resistance) of pulps using fixed-concentration sodium hydroxide solutions. The standard is applicable to and defines how to prepare samples, treat them with NaOH (commonly ), filter, acidify, wash, dry and weigh the insoluble residue to calculate the (alkali resistance) expressed as a percentage by mass.
