La présente Norme internationale spécifie des symboles géométriques pour l'emploi dans la notation des engrenages. Elle comporte deux listes, à savoir : -- d'une part, les symboles principaux, composés d'une seule lettre de base (voir tableau 1); -- d'autre part, des indices à ajouter, s'il y a lieu, aux symboles principaux, pour exprimer telle ou telle qualification du terme en question (voir tableaux 2, 3 et 4).
