Abstract
Overview
ISO 7221:1984 establishes the principal technical requirements for shipborne barges, series 1, when they are loaded, unloaded and transported on board barge carriers. The standard addresses structural and operational considerations to ensure safe handling, stacking and stowage of barges within a carrier’s hold or on deck. It also highlights the need to account for inertia loadings arising from oscillatory and translatory motion of the carrier and any uneven distribution of load in the barge.
