Sample preparation: Typical laboratory samples (powder, millings, drillings) require minimal prep; remove oil/grease with high‑purity acetone if contaminated. Pre‑ignite crucibles for determinations <0,05 % carbon (1 h at 1 100 °C).

Procedure highlights: Instrument stabilization, blank test and zero adjustment, calibration, determination, expression of results and precision reporting. Safety warnings for oxygen handling and high‑temperature burns are included.

Traceability and quality: Preference for CRMs certified by recognized bodies and methods traceable to SI units (e.g., referee methods like ISO 9556).
