This document establishes the tyre size designation, the dimensional calculation formulae, the markings and the tyre and rim coordination for the metric series of tyres primarily intended for use on agricultural and forestry tractors, machines, equipment and trailers and for construction machines. It applies to diagonal, bias-belted and radial tyres mounted on 5° and 15° tapered rims. NOTE Code designated series of: — diagonal (ply rating marked) tyres for agricultural tractors and machines are specified in ISO 4251-1 and ISO 4251-2; — radial (service description marked) tyres for agricultural tractor-drive-wheel tyres are specified in ISO 8664; — tyres for logging and forestry machines are specified in ISO 18807[1]; — tyres for construction/industrial tractors are specified in ISO 13442. Abstract
Overview - ISO 7867-1:2018 (Metric series for agricultural, forestry and construction tyres)
ISO 7867-1:2018 defines the tyre designation, dimensions, marking, and tyre/rim coordination for the metric series of tyres used on agricultural, forestry and construction machines. It applies to diagonal, bias-belted and radial tyres mounted on 5° and 15° tapered rims and establishes the size designation system, dimensional calculation formulae, sidewall marking requirements and approved rim widths/contours. The standard supports safe mounting, interchangeability and clear product identification across the industry.
Key topics and technical requirements
- Tyre size designation: rules for nominal section width (mm), nominal aspect ratio (series, multiples of 5), construction code (D or “-” = diagonal/bias, B = bias-belted, R = radial), tyre-type prefixes (e.g., IF, VF) and suffixes (e.g., FRONT, IMP, LS, IND).
- Load classes: definitions for IF (≈20% higher rated load vs. standard) and VF (≈40% higher rated load vs. standard) tyres at the same inflation pressure.
- Marking and service description: mandatory sidewall information including tyre size designation, service description and additional product data (pictograms, maximum bead seating pressure).
- Dimensional calculation formulae: procedures for calculating design tyre dimensions, minimum/maximum overall dimensions in service, and coefficients used in those calculations.
- Tyre/rim coordination: approved rim widths, rim contours for 5° and 15° tapered rims, and guidance to ensure proper fitment and safety.
- Annexed data: design dimension tables, rim width codes, dimensional guidelines, approved rim contours and rolling circumference/speed indexes.
Practical applications - who uses ISO 7867-1:2018
- Tyre manufacturers: for product design, marking, and verifying dimensional compliance for agricultural, forestry and construction tyre ranges.
- Rim producers and wheel designers: to ensure tyre/rim compatibility and correct rim contouring and width codes.
- OEMs and equipment manufacturers (tractors, loaders, trailers): to select compatible tyres and verify fitment and performance characteristics.
- Regulatory bodies and testing labs: for conformity assessment, labeling verification and safety inspections.
- Fleet managers and procurement teams: to confirm tyre specifications, interchangeability and expected rolling circumference/indices for speed and telematics calibration.
