Abstract
Overview
ISO 8032:1997 - titled “Rubber and plastics hose assemblies - Flexing combined with hydraulic impulse test (half‑omega test)” - specifies a laboratory method to accelerate and reproduce flexing-related failure modes in hydraulic hose assemblies. Known as the half‑omega test, it combines controlled bending (a “half‑Ω” arrangement) with repeated hydraulic pressure impulses to evaluate hose endurance under severe flexing and pressure conditions. The standard is a technical revision of the 1987 edition and is intended for test laboratories, manufacturers and quality engineers.

- Specimens: At least four assemblies are tested. Free (exposed) specimen length is determined from the hose minimum bend radius and outside diameter according to clause 4, with defined tolerances.
- Duration and end criteria: Continue until specimen failure or until the prescribed number of cycles is reached.
- Reporting: Test report must include reference to ISO 8032, full hose and assembly description (including fittings), number of impulses/flex cycles to failure (or cycles achieved), failure type and location, any procedural modifications, pressure rise rate, test fluid and date.
Note: ISO 8032 intentionally uses more severe bend radii and pressures than normal service conditions to accelerate failures and does not imply suitability for operation under these test conditions.
