ISO 8127-1:1989 defines the physical characteristics and basic test methods for A6 size microfilm jackets configured as a five‑channel jacket for 16 mm microfilm. It standardizes jacket geometry, channel arrangement, materials and acceptability criteria to ensure interchangeability and reliable handling in active micrographics systems (loaders, readers, duplicators and storage enclosures).

• Material and optical quality: Jacket materials must be transparent safety materials compliant with ISO 5466 and ISO 7830 and must not damage film on insertion/removal. Wrinkles, scratches or blemishes that impair viewing or reproduction are not permitted.
• Dimensional stability and tests: Curl or bow is limited (empty jacket must not exceed 6.5 mm above a flat surface) and is measured by the referenced ISO test method. Optical clarity/legibility tests for duplicates are defined to control reproduction loss caused by the emulsion sheet.
