Lays down the basic requirements and the detailed design requirements. Annex B sets out the sections of other ISO-Standards which apply to this type of container. Requirements for containers to be transported by rotary-wing aircraft are excluded.
Abstract
Overview
ISO 8323:1985 - "Freight containers - Air/surface (intermodal) general purpose containers - Specification and tests" defines the basic and detailed requirements for intermodal general‑purpose freight containers intended primarily for fixed‑wing aircraft and surface transport (road, rail, sea). It sets design rules, dimensional limits, marking and airworthiness considerations, and a test programme to verify strength, handling and weatherproofness. Requirements for rotary‑wing (helicopter) transport are explicitly excluded. Annex A contains detailed design requirements; Annex B lists related ISO standards that apply.
