Overview

ISO 8394-1:2010 - Building construction - Jointing products - Part 1: Determination of extrudability of sealants - specifies a laboratory method to determine the extrudability of sealants (mastics). The standard defines a repeatable used to verify how easily a sealant can be extruded from its packaging under defined conditions. It is a test method for quality assessment and is intended for classification of sealants.

Procedure:
- Prepare packaging, fit canule, purge entrapped air, set pressure, extrude for 30 s (default).
- Perform three extrusion tests using identical conditions and the same lot number.
Results:
- Primary expression: mass flow in grams per minute (g/min), calculated from mass extruded and test time.
- Optionally expressed as volume flow (mL/min) using sealant density measured at test temperature.
- Report the individual results and the mean (rounded as specified).
Test report must include reference to ISO 8394-1:2010, lab name/date, sealant type/lot, conditioning temperature, extrusion pressure, duration, canule details, results, density (if used), and any deviations.
