ISO 8504-3:2018

Overview

ISO 8504-3:2018 specifies hand- and power-tool cleaning methods for preparing steel substrates before applying paints and related products. Applicable to both new steelwork and previously coated steel requiring maintenance, the standard describes the equipment and procedures for removing rust, mill scale, weld spatter and loose coatings so that priming and protective paint systems can perform as intended.

• Assessment and conformity: Cleaned surfaces are assessed against visual reference grades in ISO 8501-1 and ISO 8501-2. Work is subject to assessment by responsible parties; non-conforming areas must be reworked. Test areas can be prepared per ISO 12944-8.
